A Year Later

Reading my previous blog makes me want to slap myself because I promised myself and everyone to write a special post talking about my university life. The fact is that I didn't get so much time to do that, but of course I do miss writing! Looking back in the past, I still remember when I had graduated from uni and I was strictly ambitious to find a job. Lol! I started working in February 2017 (and I cannot believe that it has been one year I work!). The past one year has been tough to me. It's tough being a freshman, being new, being junior. Yet, aside from it, I'm pleased that I got to know new friends from work (while I could keep maintaining my relationship with my old friends) who have different backgrounds that I could get so many new perspectives! :)

If I have to sum everything I got through in the past one year, I would say 2017 was a new 'thing' for me. It's a moment when I realized that  I was only a 22-year-old kid who just started to know how the world works and fell down for several times at the early age of 23. The good news is that I didn't fall with emptiness. I fell and got up again with lessons that shaped me much better as a person.

I hope 2018 will be much greater for new exciting events, business, lessons, and relationships. Futhermore, I hope I can share more with others and do something more for Indonesia's education and environment (because these two are the issues that I give my concern the most outside my daily office works!).
I also hope I can travel more this year since I have lacked of traveling haha! Oh, and I surely will post about my uni life ;)

University Life is Over

Wednesday, November 09 2016: the last time I wrote on this blog, not knowing that I was reaching my bachelor's degree exactly in 20 days. Ah, and this reminds me of back when I wrote this post. I wrote a sentence "I don't know why but I optimistically will be graduating as a Bachelor of Communications in just under 5 months". Sorry if it sounds overconfident haha but I did that just to calm myself. There's something magical about that sentence: I graduated 4 months later after I wrote that! I wrote it in July. Then I graduated on November 29th. It's under 5 months! I don't know if it's a coincidence or  meant to be my fate. My sister only told me that it's called "law of attraction". No no. Google it yourself. I'm not discussing it any further :p

I've been very excited about my graduation. Since my college is located in Jatinangor, so I don't need to go back and forth Jakarta-Jatinangor anymore *yeay*. I'm also excited for having done with my dissertation. It was a long, tiring, and emotional journey. Lucky me I could get through it with so much helps from the people around me.

Despite my excitement, I know and I can't be denial that I'm gonna miss all the moments I had during my 4-year university life.
"I've learned one thing, and that's to quit worrying about stupid things. You have four years to be irresponsible here, relax. Work is for people with jobs. You'll never remember class time, but you'll remember the time you wasted hanging out with your friends. So stay out late. Go out with your friends on a Tuesday when you have a paper due on Wednesday. Spend money you don't have. Drink 'til sunrise. The work never ends, but college does..." - Tom Petty
Again, my sister ever reminded me to enjoy my uni life and not to be too serious. Being a student is great. We can do whatever we like. Whenever we make a mistake, we'll be tolerated just because we are students. It is true and I really enjoyed those days. College life is the last chance for us to be able to play around without having to feel penalized. I met some cool people who are now friends with me, thus I don't regret my college life!

I'm in the time when everyone around me says "Congratulations for finally getting your bachelor's degree!" or "Welcome to the jungle!". (Well, thank this everybody's favorite rock band called Guns N' Roses. If they had not written this song, this phrase would not exist).

Yesss it's true that I am now searching for my own path to get out of this jungle. I've been lost here since I graduated. Yeah, everybody experiences this stage of life though. This could be the reason why we should have enjoyed our college life. It's okay. Getting lost will teach us something in the end. But when we're already at the top, we should never forget and keep reminiscing our college life no matter how good or bad it was :) Yeup, I will always reminisce them. In order not to forget before I'm getting old, I'm going to write some posts about my college gang and also the small town but full of stories called Jatinangor.

Dear friends, let's explore the jungle!

Love,

Soon To Be A Bachelor. Bismillah

He he he. Namun Mama dan Papa saya ambisiusnya bukan main. Setiap hari nanya lewat chat WhatsApp, "Skripsi udah sampe mana?" "Bab 4 nya udah?" "Bab 5 udah?"

Hiyah.. tiba-tiba jadi ngomongin proses masa-masa skripsian gini. Memang cukup complicated proses perskripsian saya.

*beralih buka file skripsi*

Everybody Has Gotten A Flaw, Except Me

Do you think the title sounds selfish? It does and it represents all of us. Why do I say so? Because I will always be with me. You will always think you're right. She will always wanna be self-centered. He sees himself as the most perfect guy. We are obsessed over ourselves.

This could be more like a confidence. Isn't a confidence good for us? It is. We do have to be confident to overcome our own fear. When we've done overcoming them, good things will then follow. Our every single move becomes to take form. The things is, we like to seek other human beings' flaws to be discussed, that are not even necessary and affect our lives. I used not to care of it but as the time passes by I realize something: people tend to look for anything that makes them feel superior. We will look at anybody else as if we were perfect. As if we had got no flaw. Besides, when we talk about others, we unconsciously find out that 'nobody is perfect', the statement we've heard for centuries. But why do people keep on doing it? As I said, people love it to be superior, or they do it because they want to increase their self-esteem.

I've actually got sick of hearing people giving off their sharpest-but-not-so-important comments to other people. I don't mean that I'm clean. I'm not, but I've been aware that talking about others' flaws won't make it to an end. I've seen that the beauty of human beings is actually the flaw that can be their powers to live up to their dreams. I've seen that the human beings who got flaws are the normal ones. I've got flaws and I'm grateful for it. All the people around me are not perfect therefore I don't deserve to talk about their deficiencies that actually have nothing to do with my life. It's hard sometimes, I know. It's also our responsibility to upgrade ourselves as a person. Who doesn't want to go forward anyway? But aren't there so many other ways to lift up ourselves outside of talking about something unimportant coming from someone else's weakness? Or is it just the natural law of being humans to see each of ourselves flawless?

I wondered those questions for a million of nights before sleep, and I finally believe that our ego is controllable. The option is already in front of us: we want to control it or not.

A Little Secret

All people, from all generations have the same basic want, called happiness. It's too basic that we sometimes don't understand its form. Funny mankind, aren't we? Hmm well.. Regardless of silly things we do to seek happiness, I found today unexpectedly pleasant.
  • I had nice porridge for breakfast this morning with my friend
  • Today is my first time having a guidance for my mini thesis
  • Despite the fact that my friends and I are currently busy with our own researches, we still could steal time to sit together at the canteen, laughing at our stupid jokes
  • Eating ramen with some friends and it tasted so good
  • It's my last visit to my old boarding house to say a good-bye to Ibu Kostan
  • I saw Ermin (Ibu Kostan's daughter) wearing one of the T-shirts I had given her
  • I got a helping hand from a stranger while I was carrying my heavy items. I declined at first, bcs I felt sorry that I sort of bothered her. But she still forced me to let her help me. Then, I just could thank her
  • I don't know why but I optimistically will be graduating as a Bachelor of Communications in just under 5 months
All of those are felt by me in just ONE DAY! How delightful it is when simple little things have successfully made you happy and more vibrant. See? No need to try hard to be happy. This I can tell.. Everything's just a state of mind. :)

To: M

Your silence speaks pain
You feel tired trying not to look so
It is all reflected from your eyes
You are more than a wonder woman

Please.. wait for me until the day I've done my best comes
To make you proud
To make you tranquil
To entertain you

I may be nothing today if there hadn't been you
Your powerful support has brought me here
And you do it sincerely
You are more than an angel

It's time for me to pay back
Even it's not a penny
It's just what I do
And everything I do, is for you, M.

This Is My Mantra

For those who have ever felt let down by the one you've trusted for years
For those who have been lied for such a very long time (even since you were still innocent toddlers)
or
For those who find that so many scrubby people around try to criticize you without stopping only to make you lose your positive energy

I convince that you've ever wished for somebody else's life, because you thought yours was the most lousy one. I know. It's natural for every single person. But on second thought, your life is not that bad. How can I be so sure? Yes people. I've also been in those shoes. You wanna know my mantra? Here's my mantra.

If you want and need to cry, cry. Don't hold it. If you need someone to lean on, just go do it. A person was created to be able to heal another person. Do anything that makes you feel better. When you think you're done, now, get over it. Don't make any excuse. Just get over it. Try to forgive the one who has destructed your should-have-been-awesome days. Forgive him/her no matter how severe you've been hurt. Forgive him/her because of you. Because you love yourself. You won't live your whole life with the feelings of sadness, disappointment, anger, and hatred, will you? So, get over it.

You've got to try anything new, anything different. Get yourself always busy. Find some activities. Be a part of committees, join a nonprofit board, make some new friends. Try to exercise two or three times per week. Show your own pet to the children in your housing and play with them. You've got to put your earphones on while in the train or bus, turn the music on shuffle and hope it's goin' play Have You Ever Seen The Rain by Rod Stewart. You've got to read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger, or any other classic books at night until you fall asleep. You've got to wake up on Sunday morning to clean and tidy your bedroom including rearranging your bookshelves. You've got to get curious about everything. Get to know what caused the sinkholes in Mississippi. Get to know what's behind the drop of oil prices today. Keep your mind having something to think about.

You've got to give yourself time to look at the world out there. Try not to ever pass a day without reading news. Either you read on newspapers or you just install some news applications on your smartphone, it's up to you. Reading news makes you see how the world is so very messed up. You have no idea how it actually feels in Syria, Africa, France, Arab, and so on. Thousands of people die everyday in inappropriate circumstances while you are here, safe enough, with no hunger or threats. You won't want to claim your life as the most lousy one by now.

You've got to try to change your hairstyle and ask your close friends for their opinions. Will you look good with bangs? You've got to go to a cafe in a cold evening and order a cup of hot mint tea. Always be there on your best friend's birthday and other important events. You've got to feel other people's happiness by congratulating your senior for her graduation, your friend's sister's marriage or your friend's newborn baby.

You've always got to do something that makes you forget the bad things ever happened to you. You've only got to love yourself.

xx,
Y
